Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is MPD?
A: Music Player Daemon is a flexible, powerful, server-side application for playing music. DR Mobile acts as a remote control for MPD.
Q: Why can't I connect to my server?
A: Make sure your MPD server is running and accessible on your local network. Go to Settings, enter your server's IP address and port (default 6600), and tap Connect.
Q: Where do the cover art images come from?
A: DR Mobile fetches cover art from Cover Art Archive, Last.fm, and Discogs. You can configure API keys in Settings for better results.
Q: Do I need API keys?
A: API keys are optional but recommended. They enable cover art downloads from Last.fm and Discogs. Both services offer free API keys.
Q: Does DR Mobile work over the internet?
A: DR Mobile is designed for local network use. To use it remotely, you would need to configure a VPN or port forwarding on your network.
Q: Is my data collected?
A: No. DR Mobile does not collect any personal data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Q: Does DR Mobile work on Apple TV?
A: Yes. DR Mobile runs on tvOS 17 or later. The Apple TV app connects to the same MPD server and lets you browse your library, play albums, and use Radio mode from your TV.
Q: Can I use Apple TV and iPhone at the same time?
A: Yes. Both apps connect independently to the same MPD server, so you can control playback from any device.
